SoftModding

Does anyone know of any safe ways to mod your own xBox 360? I mean with no soldiering involved?
I mean I want to have mine modded, even if it is soft modded, however don't have the tools to soldier anything. Is there anything like a usb thumb stick that you can plug and go or something - that's how I did my PS3 before trading it for xBOX 360.

I have the older generation of xBOX 360 if it helps.
