Xbox Consoles: Which one should a total "noob" purchase?
I am sort of embarrassed to admit this, but I have not owned a game console since the days when I had an Atari 2600 clone (the Coleco Gemini system) back in the early to mid-1980s.
Since then, all of my gaming needs have been handled by personal computers, and until recently I have been resisting the urge to get into console gaming because of (a) concerns about the expenses (console and games), (b) ease of use and (c) security issues related to online multiplayer gaming.
Can anyone here give me good, solid advice about Microsoft's Xbox consoles? I know the 360 replaced the original Xbox so that's probably the one I might get, but are there new Xbox models out in the market now? Are they VERY expensive? Easy or difficult to use/maintain?Automated Ad: I will promote your website with SeNukeX campaign for $20

I have the PS3 and the Xbox 360, if I had to chose one I'd take the 360. Both are good though and a n00b could work either. It is really a personal preference.

Yeah, I'd say 360 is easier to use too. PS3 is more advanced imo.

Get the new Black Elite console from Xbox with a HDD (250Gb I think). This one has everything you need built in - wireless, doesn't RRoD, etc.

Re: Xbox Consoles: Which one should a total "noob" purchase?
I remember that the original Xbox could also store music files and play DVDs (although it did the latter with quite a few playback issues). Does the Xbox 360 have these capabilities? Not that I need it to since I have a desktop, a laptop, a DVD player and a couple of Blu-ray players.....
Thanks, everyone, for kindly giving me a few pointers.

Re: Xbox Consoles: Which one should a total "noob" purchase?
The xbox 360 is the best system out there right now in my opinion. We have the 4 gig one and use thumb drives if we need extra space. The cost of the 250 gig one isn't worth it when flash drives are so cheap. The xbox 360 is great because not only can you play games, but you can stream music, watch Netflix and hulu plus, get espn videos and more. The games for the 360 are amazing too- fallout, halo, mass effect, call of duty, gears of war, there are so many to choose from even kids games and stuff if you need that too!

I'd say go with the 360 definitely, its the easier console to get used to after being away from gaming for so long.
It also has a lot of extra features which are very helpful/entertaining and easy to use.

Xbox 360 all the way. You can do so many things other than games (if you choose to that, is). Plus, they have an awesome collection of exclusive games. And it is pretty "user friendly" as well, if that is what you need.
