    Lightbulb Pinging in Online Games

7 Steps on Pinging in Online Games

    1. Open RUN (Start Menu > Run) and type there regedit. This command will open your registry.
    2. Look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\. Then under Interfaces, select the folder with your IP Address/router info. This folder normally has lots of entries under it.
    3. In the folder from step 2, on the right hand panel, right click to add a new DWORD value and label it as “TcpAckFrequency”. Right click this entry to modify and put 1 hex on its value. Repeat this step again, in the same folder, but this time, using the DWORD entry “TCPNoDelay” with a value of 1 hex.
    4. For XP Users:
Open Add Remove Programs (Start > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs) and click Windows Components on the left side bar. Scroll down and look for the entry message queuing and click next.
      For Vista Users:
Open Control Panel and uninstall a program. Turn Windows features on or off. Then check the MSMQ server and its subordinates.
    5. Restart your computer.
    6. Open again your registry editor (Run > regedit).
    7. Look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSMQ\Paramet ers. Then add new value by right clicking on the right hand panel. Put the DWORD value “TCPNodelay” on this section. Right click this entry and assign a new modifier of 1.
    8. Close the registry editor and restart your computer.

If you want your system return to its previous state, before modifications, just modify all those values’ hexadecimals to 2. This will turn off the said modifications. And if the steps didn’t work out well, kindly carefully repeat them and follow the steps correctly.

In multiplayer online video games, ping refers to the network latency between a player's computer (client), and either the game server or another client (i.e. peer). This could be reported quantitatively as an average time in milliseconds, or qualitatively as low ping or high ping. The latter usage is common among players of first-person shooter and real-time strategy games. Having a low ping is always desirable because lower latency provides smoother gameplay by allowing faster updates of game data.

Interesting tutorial. Though I will hold off making changes to my computer's registry, if only cause doing so in the past has caused massive and irreparable damage.

You don't do back-ups? It is always advisable to have a back-up before touching it.
