How many people are still playing World of Warcraft in 2011?

I read over 11 million but I don't think that is accurate.

I think that's registered users. I'd imagine there'd be about 8 million or 9 million who go the game daily or whenever possible.

Don't think Rift is doing so well these days, another alleged WoW-killer that turned out to be kamikazi.

^ Nope, Rift was the last "WoW killer," but people are slowly moving away from it again as it's died out. The current WoW killer is actually Star Wars: The Old Republic, and a lot of people have moved to playing it instead. I'm guessing a bunch will come back to WoW as well, but each time, some stay trickled away.

As Jessi said, since the recent release of Star Wars: The Old Republic, many people are permanently or temporary leaving WoW to try the MMO of new generation. Since it comes from BioWare, the creator of KOTOR series, Mass Effect and Dragon Age, the hype is big.

I'm guessing at the moment there are 7 million active users and there will be a bit more after Pandaria release.
In the end I think 5.5-6 million users will continue playing WoW until the last ever expansion and Blizzard will soon after release the new big and never seen before MMO.
