Thread: 'Anonymous' hackers to Sony: It wasn't us

BOSTON, May 5 (Reuters) - The Internet vigilante group Anonymous denied responsibility for a cyber-attack on Sony Corp's networks that exposed the personal data of more than 100 million video gamers.

"Let's be clear, we are legion, but it wasn't us. You are incompetent Sony," the group Anonymous said on its Blog (anonops.blogspot.com) on Thursday.

Anonymous is a grassroots cyber-vigilante group which in December launched attacks that temporarily shut down the sites of MasterCard Inc and Visa Inc using simple software tools freely available over the Internet.

I thought Anonymous is here to protect the gamers like us not to hack them.

Woah all this time I thought it was them, I guess it was someone else. Who has the knowledge though to hack the great Sony? Next thing you know some new group is going to pop up and they are going to hack Apple or something.

Hmmm 'Anonymous' could be anyone, though, it's really a clever name. It could be the legit group or it could be a random person who's just saying they're anonymous, making people think of the vigilante group.

Very true there. I can post as "Anonymous." (Although I don't have any hacking abilities. LOL.

If they did it and admitted it, I think they would have a lawsuit after their behinds, no?
No one in the right mind would do it unless they are prepared to lead a life of a fugitive.

Well, Sony is a big company. They should have already known who did this with all the technology that they have.

It's childish to accuse some one of doing something without any solid proof. Speculation can be easily made but also can be easily revoked.

Since sony is a huge company im sure they knew who it was in one day.
but no matter who did it. it was bad ;(
