Thread: The Secret World

The Secret World is out in 2012. I believe in maybe April. To me it looks like a neat game. What do you think about it if you have heard?

It is a role playing game. So far I have seen it being rated very high. Some say it is a masterpiece while others say it is fantastic.

I can not find out what the game is really about. But the pictures they have posted look pretty neat.

I've seen the trailer. Seems pretty cool. At first I though it was a MMORPG (check out Perfect World).
It seems that Secret World will be a RPG.

Trailer seems nice and concept too but I'm a bit disappointed by the first gameplay footage. We will see, I'm afraid it's going to fail.

But what about the gameplay footage? I'm not impressed.

I don't know. It seems somehow... not fluid? I don't know how to explain it.

I've been following this game for what seems like years, since funcom first released info about it. I was on some mailing list from playing AoC. Anyway, it takes place in an alternative reality where all types of fantasy tales/legends and such are true. The factions you can ally with are The Illuminati, The Templars, and some other faction.. like Dragons or somefin. I mean right there i'm hooked, right? Great idea.

Then i start seeing the videos and developer videos that they release. I agree that most were pretty disappointing and boring. Also there were WAY too many releases where they threw around the word "social" and "social style mmo", in certain games that's fine but I have learned to fear those words in most games. We'll see what they do with it in that regard. Then there was the videos of the actual combat, now i realize we were looking at alpha or pre-alpha (when the videos were released) but it was entirely too clunky and with the realistic feel of the surrounds just seemed completely out of place. There were a few parts that still give me hope in the game
1) huge amount of customization in you character, choosing specifically what spells and abilities you want.
2) The story and main quests deal with real life (recognizable) events/things.

I believe the release date is June 19th so we'll see what comes of it all.

Thanks for the great info, Jybwee. Unfortunately, I'm probably going to skip this game since I don't see how it could come out good. I watched some gameplay footage, and the idea is okay and stuff. but I think it will be another disappointment.
