It is odd that they had so many versions. I do not understand why they would need that many.

Nintendo DS

Nintendo DSi
Nintendo DSi XL
Nintendo 3DS

And in future there will be:

Nintendo 3DS Lite
Nintendo 3DSi

Nintendo 4DS
Nintendo 4DS Lite and so on and so on

I think the problem is that the suits at Nintendo, like the suits at any electronic products company, have to keep their designers/innovators/game developers busy and employed, so they develop all kinds of variants on a product line that, from the consumer's point of view, doesn't need new versions every year or so. I've noticed that PCs and laptops, too, tend to become obsolescent within a year or so because more tweaks are made to CPUs, memory chips, storage systems and so on and so forth without any real regard to whether the consumers need them or not.

Fardreamer, that makes sense. Seriously though, not many people are buying portable gaming systems much anymore because you can just play games on your ipod/phone and do so many other things too.

I didn't get into the Nintendo DS in '04 & neither did my oldest. We have bad enough eyesight, I don't think we need to be staring at such a small screen for long periods of time. With the way she games, yeah she'd be staring at it for hours on end. My cousin had a GameBoy Color years ago & that boy couldn't even walk a block without having that thing in front of his face. So no handheld gaming systems for us. Not even the PSP.
