I would have thought it was the other way around - that Nintendo would release stuff in Japan first and then release it to the rest of the world some time later. Since a lot of games (especially the Nintendo franchises such as Zelda, Mario, Pokemon etc.) are of Japanese origin, these games are developed in Japan. This means that once completed, they need to be translated and edited accordingly for English speaking audiences.

I'm guessing it depends on the game. If it were a game that was published by western companies then I believe they would be released outside of Japan first. The flagship titles like Mario and Zelda would always come out of Japan first of course.

Yeah, games developed and published from other countries are distributed outside Japan first, and it is the other way round for games in Japan.
