Thread: Contra - the Best game of All times?

I use to sit and play Contra until I peed my pants. Literally. I'd hate wasting the time going to the bathroom because I loved Contra so much.

It was one of my favorite games and I must have beat it about 50,000,000 times. That is a bit of a stretch.

Who is with me, Contra is the best game of all times?

Contra was good back in the day. But best game of all time? That's a stretch.

Me too i played Contra when i was a kid but i don't think that it has a big impact on me because there are a lot of beautiful games that i played when i was a child.

Well, I can say that Contra is one of a kind and definitely best on its time.
But this game is nothing compared to current games, let alone in the graphics...

I hear people say this kind of thing all the time, 'best game ever' as if there will never be another better game. And, for that person, it might be true. Of course, it's a very subjective subject, cause they are simply feeling the pull of nostalgia, a very intangible thing, back to the past when things were different and it might not all be related to the specific game they are playing. So for instance, i could say that Atari Keystone Cops is the best game ever, though really if you were to see it today you would say the graphics sucked. But what i would really be talking about are the countless Saturday mornings spent with my brothers in the eighties playing these games and the fun times we had. So yeah, i think it all depends on the situation you are going through at the time, not just the game.

Well, the word "best" itself is a subjective word. It tends to be opinionated based on the beliefs of the person who is saying this.

Right! And, it is all based on personal experience. And, that's what i love about games. Sometimes you can lock into one particular game and it comes at a time during your life when you are enjoying yourself and life and you just develop fond memories of game play. Often, i try to go back and relive those game play moments by playing a classic game and don't find the same enjoyment cause i have moved on from that spot in my life.

Once you get used to newer consoles, it might be boring to some when they try out older consoles. What makes them continue playing retro games is the "nostalgic feeling."

I will agree that Contra is the best game OF ITS TIME. The replay value was amazing. I never got tired of it.

However, second to contra is Life Force (Gradius spinoff) also made by Konami. These were one of those two player co-ops that could not be beat by any other game of its time.
