Wii = Too Childish?
Do you think the Nintendo Wii is too childish?

Re: Wii = Too Childish?
Yes. Honestly, I can't compare it to ps3 or 360.

I've only tried it a couple times at a friend's house. It was OK, not Xbox 360. I'm lucky to have friends who own the systems. Up till now that has meant i didn't have to do so. But i think for sure i will get my own game system this Christmas assuming there is money left over after purchase of my gaming computer. It's not looking likely now.

I really think it depends on the game. I mean Black Ops and Golden Eye 007 aren't really childish games. There is blood and violence and all that swearing. It's just the Wii graphics engine isn't powerful enough. Wish they would upgrade it.

Super Smash Bros Brawl is a game for any age but the console itself and how it is marketed is definitely too kiddy for my taste.
It may not be kiddy seeming in Japan, but that kind of thing doesn't appeal to the US the same way. There is a large family market for Nintendo to tap into but we're in a recession and families aren't exactly going to go out and start gaming when they normally wouldn't be. Nintendo needs to appeal to real gamers again.

Re: Wii = Too Childish?
My sister-in-law has a Wii & I've watched her kids play it a few times. It does seem too kiddy for me. My 4 year old (at the time, she's now 6) even said it was too silly for her to play. Of course, this is the child who likes to sit & watch her daddy play God of War or Mortal Kombat. Just a wee bit violent, especially compared to whatever Mario racing game they were playing on the Wii...

Re: Wii = Too Childish?
Nintendo has purposefully driven the Wii towards younger audiences and families. I wouldn't say it's a bad thing. I mean, if the Wii was aimed at older audiences then younger people wouldn't have much to game. Also, the Wii is a cheap and affordable console which makes it a great console for families. Many games on the Wii have their focus on the multiplayer aspect.
I have seen many children play Zelda, SSBB and Animal Crossing as well. I'm not saying that it's only for kids. I'm just saying it's not mostly for adults. I guess SSBB isn't just for kids but I'm willing to bet there's a lot of younger gamers playing the game. I mean, it includes cute little characters like Kirby and Pikachu. There is a sense that not all games on the Wii are made for younger people but I would say that other consoles have more M rated games and are targeted more at older audiences. The console is aimed at younger audiences but it isn't 'too childish'.
