Re: What do you hate about MMO?
I don't care about how much time they suck away from me since I am going to be spending a lot of time gaming anyways, but what I hate about MMOs is how much they don't even try to be epic. Sure they can involve a lot of teamwork and there's plenty of enjoyment to be had in the challenge of that, but is it really that satisfying to have a gigantic boss standing in front you that you are taking turns exchanging hits with? No, that's boring as hell.
MMOs need to venture into real time combat territory more so they can stop this runescape bullshit of stats based combat. It's boring and every MMO no matter how epic can be boiled down to something like that, which is a shame.

@OmarFW
What are you describing seems like a Finaly Fantasy concept, and from RPGs like that. Turn-based combat.
In MMOs you have real time combat, so I'm not completely sure what are you saying. I might not understand tho.

Re: What do you hate about MMO?
A lot of MMOs do have realtime combat, but the combat is never particularly advanced. It basically boils down to hitting people for as much damage as you can. There's no finesse to it. Sure, you have teamwork with healers, but I'd rather see some combat similar to the Devil May Cry games where enemies are capable of interesting attacks which require careful timing and combos to defeat. Every MMO I've seen has basically come down to a damage per second situation, which is fun for a while but can quickly become boring.

Re: What do you hate about MMO?
Real time combat is what you see in FPS games etc. MMOs are not real time because it based on stats, not on actual player position, movement etc.
That is a duel in runescape. For the majority of it the players are just standing there waiting for cool timers etc so they can attack again. There is no aiming involved etc.
This is the same way combat works in every other MMORPG as well. Since there is no element of aiming or real time movement and attacking, it all boils down to numbers and stats. That is not real time. It isn't 'turned based' in the actual sense but it involves you standing next to your enemy attacking it once every few seconds while it attacks you once every few seconds. It's a lot of very fast turns, but it's still turn based combat with no real time elements like aiming.
That is boring.Last edited by OmarFW; 12-28-2011 at 07:35 PM.

Re: What do you hate about MMO?
Yeah, now I get the point. Still compare duel in runescape (you really found the worst combat rpg) with duel in Rift/WoW, yeah, it is more based on spells, actions and stuff, but it is still full of movement.

I thought you were saying in the type of combat of the, for example, japanesee rpg's, where you take real turns in choosing the attacks and stuff. But still, I get what you want to say. You would much rather play mmorpg if it was Elder Scrolls type.
