The video game industry is still not showing growth over the previous year, but it's clawing back slowly.

The industry posted revenue of $846.5 million in July, down just 1 percent from the same month last year. Sales for the year are still off by 8 percent from last year, but it's improved by 1 percent sequentially from June.

The big news was in hardware, which was up 12 percent to $313.8 million, largely on the strength of a new slimmed-down Xbox 360 from Microsoft. The Xbox 360 was the top-selling console with 443,500 sold, the first time it was No. 1 since September 2007. The Nintendo Wii followed with 253,900, while 214,500 of Sony's PlayStation 3 were sold.

Software sales were down 8 percent to $403.3 million. The top title was NCAA Football 11, which sold a combined 692,000 units on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

While traditional console and handheld gaming is still down, PC gaming had a big month in July, growing 103 percent with the release of blockbuster Starcraft II, which sold 721,000 copies. Together, PC games and traditional video game sales were up 4 percent over last year.

There's still hope that the game industry can break even this year, but it will take a big showing by Microsoft's Kinect and Sony's PlayStation Move to help get it there.

Hell of-course it would because its shiny, and its quieter so there is no reason for people not to picking it up.

I doubt the game industry will make lots of new earnings just because of a new xbox that is slimmer and more quiet.

is the new xbox less likely to get the red ring of death ? to me it seems like the xbox ellite gets it more than the 60gb so would upgrrading the storage increase the problem ? or have they solved the problem ?

Is it true it has built-in wi-fi?

now looking back i only know one person who got one and no one else is going to get one in the futer
