Is it worth the effort to build your own computer?
At the moment, I use my school laptop for gaming which has Intel(R) HD Graphics, 4.00 GB of RAM, Intel i5, and use Windows 7 as operating system.
I was wondering, is it worth the time building your own computer (or getting somebody to build it for you)? What is the cost involved, as in, would it be likely to increase or decrease the cost of the final product? How much more convenient would it be?

Re: Is it worth the effort to build your own computer?
I have built my two computers myself. It is all like a huge jigsaw puzzle, you just need to know what goes where. According to me, if you assemble your own rig, it would cost at least $100 or so lesser than what a proper branded computer would cost you. Assembling takes less than 3 hours, and the best part is, since you have done it yourself, you can troubleshoot hardware problems by yourself, and install or replace hardware parts yourself too. I am all for it.
But, only do it if you know what you are doing. Or get someone else who knows about computers to do it for you.
Good luck.

It's cheaper to do so most of the time as other people who build computers to sell want to make a profit off of the parts they purchased so they are obviously going to sell it for more than you would pay to just buy the parts yourself.

Like the others have said it's cheaper but it's also good if you know what parts and then you could make a computer better then the ones that others are currently selling.
But I honestly haven't made my own computer before because i'm just fine with the laptop i have right now.

Re: Is it worth the effort to build your own computer?
In my opinion it is worth it to build a computer. If your new to it i suggest doing research on the parts first. Learn what does what and try to compare it to what you already have. Research is the most important tool because sometimes you will run into people who will sell you parts that are worse than your original set up. They don't care they just want your money. Research it first then ask for someone to help you build it.

It's worth it. Not only do you save money, but you can choose exactly what goes into your computer. If you know you don't need 1TB of storage, you can save money buy buying a smaller hard drive; you're not forced to take whatever the pre-built ones come with from the store.

Yes, that is fine, but don't do anything stupid when building it.
