    The computer? $1000
The graphics card itself? about $160 or so if you get it from Sapphire (good brand)

    $1000! O_O That's outta my league.
But considering you got an impressive specs, it's worth the money.

You'll just upgrade your current one or but a whole new system?
The former would be cost efficient, but the latter requires a lot of money. Your current one costs a lot to begin with...

Well I am getting a job so I plan to get a new one in a few years with an NVIDIA GTX 580 Dual SLI and an Intel Core i7 2600K if possible. I am trying my best to get the best so my computer can run the best in the future. I mean if Battlefield 3 was graphics intensive, why stop there?

My desktop had the 512 MB NVidia 8500GT. It burnt out after 3 years due to constant excessive gaming. I think it outlived its expected life, and was totally worth it. I currently have a 2 GB Nvidia GTX 540m on my laptop right now. Coupled with a Core i7 processor and 8 GB of RAM, it just about delivers everything that I want!
