Thread: exhausted search for steam problem

"riven" and "bladerunner" are the only games i ever played.
by chance i stumbled over "anno 2070" and found it appealing. had nothing to do this weekend so i thought i buy this game. instead of running into town and buy the game on cd i thought i look for an option to download it. found steam and gave them $49.99 USD. big mistake.... when trying to get the cd key or hitting "play", i keep getting the "failed to contact key server" error.
after googling this error i make sure that all the required ports are open and renamed the "ClientRegistry.blob" to "ClientRegistryOld.blob". no success. google further and did the deleting thing as suggested here forums.steampowered DOT com/forums/showthread.php?p=28300813#post28300813 and the game cache thing as described support.steampowered DOT com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335
still: "failed to contact key server".
of course i contacted steam support and of course i haven't heard anything from them.
now i read about router issues. i'm on a wireless public network and i have no access to the router (averaging 180kbps). can it be i get this error because i'm on a wifi network? if so, why doesn't state steam so before they let me give them my money?

That could be, security (firewall) set up on that network ESPECIALLY because you say it's a public one. Just to be sure open up windows firewall and make sure it's not blocking anything from steam on your computer. Could also be a problem with an antivirus, can either turn it off for a few minutes to test (i know Avast has that option) or add an exception much like you'd do with your firewall.
