Re: Do you feel like you are wasting time?
Yes I do. But then I think I am doing something that I love.

Re: Do you feel like you are wasting time?
Nope, not wasting time at all by gaming, otherwise I wouldn't do it. I always get something out of it: Learning new tactics and strategies, seeing cool artwork, the fun of working together with friends...

Re: Do you feel like you are wasting time?
No problem. I can think of three things off the top of my head.
#1) After playing flight sims with one of my friends for a while, I suggested that he should make a combat training course to help other people out because he's a really good combat pilot in-game, he's a licensed pilot in real life, and he enjoys teaching. The result was Lord J-Bar's Combat Flight School, which I helped him test because it requires at least two people flying (an instructor and one or more students). Not only do you learn a lot about flight and combat tactics, but he also likes to work in the history of WWII (since we typically do the training in IL-2) and the info about each aircraft. It sure beats reading a text book!
#2) The people in my clan who help out with the artwork also post it on DeviantArt and add it to their portfolios. It's work that adds to their reputation as an artist, and/or that they can use to attract clients. Our artwork is inspired by games in one way or another.
#3) One of the gaming groups I used to be a part of consisted of a lot of programmers, as I found out after getting to know them in-game. That group helped me learn computer programming, and as a result I wrote a couple little applications that interacted with the game, as well as an application that I found out my high school has been using for almost 10 years now. I'm still programming to this day, just in different languages now.
Video games are nothing more than what you make of them. If you want to turn off your brain and mindlessly kill bad guys all day, then you're going to get a mindless, time-wasting experience. If you use your time gaming to learn new tactics and strategy, observe the creative elements that went into making the game (art, story, etc.), make and get to know in-game friends, and so on, then you get a much more productive experience.Automated Ad: I will Create 50 High PR EDU and GOV Links to Your Website for $15
