No they don't. But it is a series of games. TD 1,2,3,4,5,6, off road 1,2,3 and Unlimited 1 and 2.

Bioshock: Infinite version of a harder difficulty seems to back up your guys comments, seeing as they have called it 1999. Plus, if my memory serves me right, in Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas does it not have a mode where you need to eat, sleep and drink regularly to stay alive?

In some ways, that cheats the game, cause you can just get on with game play. But also, when you have to worry about the characters bodily needs, it makes things so much more like real life and if you're trying to escape that, (the mundane aspects), then you might get turned off by them too.

Re: Difficulty in modern gaming
Yeah I never dealt with the whole real life thing in Fallout. I thought the reward for doing it was not worth the effort. But i suppose the replication of what a post apocalyptic environment is like to live in is interesting.
Back to original point of the thread...I have noticed over the years how I have progressed from playing on easy as a kid, then medium as a young teenager, not playing on the hardest setting. It may be an age thing or games just getting easier...would be cool to find out if that is the case tho!

Re: Difficulty in modern gaming
Yeah but in MMORPGs you have regeneration which is okay since it's there since the beginning and pretty damn tough even with it. In FPS it's a bit newer thing (for older gamers, and I can't really count myself old but I was raised on health bars!
) and it made it easier.
