Re: Difficulty in modern gaming
I fucking loved this video from the beginning to the end. I like the Megamen reference cause I myself enjoyed winning the level after being fucked constantly and restarting the game countless of times. I could've added many platforms and arcades from that time that made me WTF, espec. on Sega Dreamcast.
On the things that made the games easier I would add the lack of health bar in the FPS games, which made the game 10 times fucking easier. You get shot ten times in the chest, you cover, take a breather, and poof, you're fucking as good as new.
I started to think that it's because of the easy good looking high budget games that I started to play more indie games that actually requires me to use my brain a bit. I can't believe I never tried Dark Souls, I am so tempted to try it after this clip.

Great video, and thanks for sharing. I agree with this:
Completely true, and that sucks.lack of health bar in the FPS games, which made the game 10 times fucking easier. Re: Difficulty in modern gaming
I think the first game that I played that had that system of wounding is COD1. Since then, every game was the same. I want health bar back.

Re: Difficulty in modern gaming
So, Cod1 still had a health bar? Then my memory serves me bad. But then COD1 was the first game with aim helper on right click, right? I know it had something inovative that is still used now massively by all fps (or all action) games.

Helper? No. Right click was for Iron Sight.

Re: Difficulty in modern gaming
Right click for aiming (iron sight=). Yeah, I first saw it in COD1.

Re: Difficulty in modern gaming
I agree entirely. Games these days are too damned easy, almost as though developers are afraid to give players a challenge for fear of losing their customers. I know most gamers I speak to would rather that games were tougher and provided more of a challenge. It makes it feel more worthwhile once you finally beat that annoying boss, or complete the final level. I think the biggest challenge of seen in recent times was Demyx in Kingdom Hearts 2, and that was just one boss from an otherwise easy game.
I remember when I heard that Capcom had dumbed down Devil May Cry 3 after complaints of it being too hard showed up. I almost cried.

Re: Difficulty in modern gaming
It was CoD4 that was the real game changer for shooters because it took the concepts introduced in CoD1 and CoD2 like health regen, iron sights etc and had mad success with them. The only game played more than it in 2007 was WoW. Obviously this kind of success for any game is going to launch a huge campaign of copy cats and it ultimately lead to the plethora of dumbed down shooters we see today. So as much as I loved CoD4, I also hate what it did to the genre.
I would've been content if they had just never changed anything about CoD after CoD2 since I preferred it much more back then as it actually brought more of a challenge.
