I believe the app thing is right. Cause you can revoke their access to send you updates while still remaining a subscriber. They just can't send you alerts your wall or email anymore.

This is just a guess, but i would imagine that Farmville and other games are popular to play on the job. People should be working but they're goofing off and playing on work time.
