It took game developing titans Bethesda Soft Works five years to come up with a successor to Elder Scrolls- Oblivion, but the wait was worth it! Elder Scrolls Skyrim hit gaming stores on 11/11/11 (the unique date was used as a publicity gimmick by Bethesda) for Xbox, PS3 and the PC. So far, it has sold 6 million copies on Xbox alone!

So what makes the game so special you ask? For starters, it’s the successor to the most critically and user acclaimed role playing game in recent times “Elder Scrolls”. If that wasn’t enough to ensure its success, the critics are raving over the sheer expanse of the open world available to players, in-depth plus highly engrossing story line and breathtaking graphics.

The main quest is comprised of exploits of a ‘dragon born’ or “Dovahkiin”, (a mortal with a soul of a dragon). Needless to say, the player has to assume the role of this dragon born who is the main protagonist of the game. Estimate completion time for the entire game is around 300 hours, which includes intricate side quests and an open world to explore to your heart’s content.

Battle Mechanics and AI
Battle tactics and computer AI have been tweaked to a whole new level for Skyrim. Introduction of dual wield (wielding magic in one hand and weapon in the other) is quite flawless. Magic spells have more visible and prominent effects on opponents in Skyrim as compared to Oblivion; you can literally turn your opponents into piles of ash or turn them into instant Popsicles.

The computer AI is much better, but a few tried and tested methods common to the sword and sorcery world apply here too. Your opponents attack you on sight and upon getting a bashing from you which lowers their health bar, they make a run for it or go into a fetal position indicating their submittal. All in all the fighting mechanics may leave you satisfied in some areas while at some places they make you go “they could have done better”.

User Interface
The lengths to which the developers have gone to make the Interface unique, is clearly visible once you delve into the game. The inventory or items, leveling up, magic and maps can all be accessed via a single button push.

Overall, Skyrim is a beautifully made role playing game which is guaranteed to go down in the annals of gaming history as one of the greatest!

This is a pretty good game. I agree that it will remain a higher played game. It is a good one that in a few years people will still be playing.
