Call of duty: Black ops is the latest installment in the call of duty series, being massively succesfully and greatly different from the previous installment, modern warfare 2. Many of these changes are due to the fact that this game has been developed by treyarch, and this game has been the first call of duty game where they have added many of their own features and innovations to the game, such as the cold war setting, and wager matches. One of these key changes to the game has been the change from a ten prestige system (where you must reach the maximum level, and start again ten times to have "beaten" the multiplayer) to a 15 prestige system. This of course means more levels need to be gained, which means faster experience is needed. The easiest way to pursue these goals is search and destroy.
Search and destroy is one of the classic game modes from the call of duty series, appearing as a game mode in games as old as call of duty 2. In search and destroy, you have one life, and the objective is to plant the bomb, and defend it for 45 seconds, if you are attacking. If you are defending, you are aiming to stop the attackers from planting the bomb, or to defuse it once they have. Either team can also win by killing every member of the enemy team.
Experience is gained at a rapid rate due to the high rates of experience for every action, each kill rewards 500 experience, with an additional 500 experience being given for a headshot. You also recieve 500 experience for planting the bomb, and 500 experience for defusing. These high experience rates are due to the high pressure of the one life game, and the long respawn times, etc. Search and destroy is largely based on skill, as early deaths will result in 0 experience for the round, and a long wait until the next round (and a respawn).
Rush planting
rush planting is a potentially deadly strategy for search and destroy, intended for the attacking side. The easiest way to pull of rush plants is to use the perks marathon and lightweight (though in later rounds ghost pro and ninja pro being an option to try and remain undetected or hidden for longer) with a close range weapon such as a sub machine gun, or shotgun with a silencer. With the classes set up, you must run and grab the bomb, and sprint to the objective (whichever is closer and/or less visited) and plant the bomb before any defenders can react, and use wild tactics to keep the bomb defended by any means neccisary.
Ninja Defusing
Ninja defusing is a defense side tactic, involving the defusal of a bomb before defenders are dead, or even aware that the defuser is there. The set up for this tactic is generally a class with the "hidden" perks, ghost pro, and ninja pro, although some players may find more success with the marathon/leightweight combination, to help them hide around the bomb site faster. A silenced weapon can be useful, as well as a damera spike, however the death of a team mate will alert the enemy team with or without a silencer. To use this tactic, on a defending round you must rush to the bomb site, and stay out of sight, until you hear or see someone planting the bomb. At this point, go prone behind them, and after the bomb has been planted, immediately defuse the bomb. This strategy relies on the planters lack of a look back ono the bomb site, which is actually a reliable theory, as this strategy works suprisingly often.
elimination
Elimination is the commonly used unknowlingly, and is the process of using small groups (2-3 players) to take out individual members of the enemy team. This tactic is useful for thinning down the ranks of the enemy before planting, or defending. Is also sometimes referred to as outnumbering.
Thank you for reading my Call of duty: Black ops search and destroy guide, hopefully i will expand into other game modes shortly
