And so begins the steady crumbling of EA’s PC fanbase
[continued]"The Battlefield 3 beta is currently seeing well over 100,000 players spread out across numerous game servers, all officially running the Operation Metro map with the Rush mode, with support of up to 32 players.
Unofficially, however, several servers have been popping up with the conquest version of Operation Metro, which supports up to 64 players. Not only that, some game servers have already been hacked to support up to 128 players — we’ve tested out Operation Metro on conquest with 64 and 128 players, and can confirm their existence, albeit, the 128 player server lagged considerably.
Since then, DICE has released a statement on Battlelog, informing users not to join any unofficial/hacked servers. Doing so can compromise your EA account and have it banned by EA (meaning you won’t have access to your other EA games, either)."
Battlefield 3 beta hacked to support 128 players - Battlefield 3
You can get banned not only from the BF3 beta, but from every EA game you own simply by joining a server that has been hacked to support up to 128 people. Who cares if you had nothing to do with the actual hacking of the server code and simply selected a random server with quick join to enjoy a match of BF3; your games are now at risk of being forfeit according to EA.

Re: And so begins the steady crumbling of EA’s PC fanbase
Battlefield 3 on PC really was a huge 'fuck you' to PC gamers.
First of all, i'm pretty confident most PC gamers love steam, we don't want to use origin, there's no need.
The BF3 server browser is awful.

Pretty much yes. EA and Activision know that consoles make more money because of DLC and flat rate game prices so they put their priorities in those rather than PCs. If anything they want PC gamers to become console gamers so they can be sheared of money more easily. The PC is an open platform so it isn't as easy to control gamers.
I'm done buying EA games from now on. They make things like Origin to combat piracy when really they are only encouraging it to happen more.

Re: And so begins the steady crumbling of EA’s PC fanbase
I never really played any EA games on my PC so I don't have to worry about this but I think its pretty sh!++y of them! They should never, ever lock you out of a game that you have already bought & paid for just because you joined the wrong server! What happens if you were to join a server & then it became hacked? Would you then lose all your games because you were on a server when it got hacked??? I admit, I don't know how the servers work in Battlefield 3 but I am a bit familiar with the way WoW's servers work & assume BF3's work the same way.

Re: And so begins the steady crumbling of EA’s PC fanbase
Coming from being one of the many who bought Battlefield 3 on the PC and from a distinguished line of other games and devs sponsored by EA, this does affect me and I hate to see that I have to click the icon to go to origin to go to battlenet and then go to the actual game itself. It puts a strain on my computer added that I have been in one of those 128 player servers. It was fun in there and actually wasn't insanely laggy. Hey if it were me, I would love to be in a zero lag 128 player match on Caspian Border. That would be a dream to me. Seriously, if I were to lose my EA account anytime soon. I would lose both Mass Effect games, both Dead Spaces, Battlefield 3 and a lot others. Hundreds of dollars down the drain for a false sense of pride EA wants. I mean I thought I looked up to EA, they used to be the guys you went to for just about anything good and now they are just trying to pull a fast one on the PC gamers. Please EA, for the sake of all of us, you will get more fans and more pride and a lot more money if you just give us PC gamers a chance.

Remember the line from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan that Spock used to define the logic of duty? "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few...or the one."
EA's philosophy seems to be "The needs of the console game division outweighs the needs of the PC players."
Just my two cents' worth.

Re: And so begins the steady crumbling of EA’s PC fanbase
I still don't believe that give EA the right to turn down perfectly good gamers and their money for the sake of the pride. Again like I said, 128 players on Caspian Border with no lag would be a dream but we are left with the threat of ban to play EA games and the crappy service we get now anyway all because EA has some kind of false sense of pride that they need to flaunt around like an egotistical prick. I know you think that PC gaming isn't the needs of the many but there are a lot more PC gamers than console and they make the community what it is even for console gamers. There have been cases where maps created by fans on the PC were taken to both PC online public matches and console games also because of the community in the PC area.
Consoles might feel like they're special because they have a larger fan base but the PC gamers are the ones who speak louder.Automated Ad: I will submit your Blog to 20 top Rss free directory manually for $9

Re: And so begins the steady crumbling of EA’s PC fanbase
Every greedy publisher is backing consoles primarily these days even if their roots were in PC gaming like EA because consoles are easier to twist and exploit for money than PCs. They are a closed platform and while PC gamers have options, choices and constant sales on Steam and such, consoles have DLC ridden games forced upon them at a flat rate regardless of the quality of the game so they generate more money.

Re: And so begins the steady crumbling of EA’s PC fanbase
THAT'S why I went to PC gaming. I demanded my choices. I demanded that I got the game I wanted at the fair price and when I bought the game, I wanted ALL of it then and there instead of them cutting out part of the game and adding it on later for more profit. That's why I want, and I know this sounds naive, to get the ones here in GB and GamerMC and everywhere else we can think of to open their eyes and join gaming's next revolution. That's why I started The 57th Parallel.
