The 57th Parallel Analyzes: Top 5 Games of 2011
So I do think that I should probably pull back the murder weapons of my critique and do something a little different. How about a Top 5 games I actually enjoyed for 2011. Sweet Christ I think there is something wrong with me! So of course I am going to top off the year of never mentioning 2011 again after then and work on games that come out in 2012…well until games come out in 2012. So that means you get to see my reviews of half year old shit for another half year!
5. Terraria: Originally this game came as something I would hate. It seemed like a rip off of Minecraft but when I was suckered into buying it, I enjoyed it very much. The gameplay is progressive and fun and I don’t have to worry about being the god king of death after getting the best end game armor and weapons because I do have the end game armor and weapons and I STILL can’t solo Skeletron Prime.
4. Portal 2: It may have been meaty and the levels were a little too environmental for my tastes but it still deserves some kind of approval because it’s a Valve game. They physically cannot screw something up no matter how tacked on it was. Valve gives some kind of respect to the core mechanics of the game and story because they know that quality over quantity is more important. That’s right I am talking to you Call of Duty.
3. Assassin’s Creed Revelations: Now this is a game that I consider my guilty pleasure. There is so much I just HATE about it but I can’t help but to go back to the story because I love it too much. Ubisoft blew my mind one more time no matter how much I play the game with the clunky mechanics and the piss easy combat. Revelations slices through to number 3 on my list
2. The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim: Now this game was a game that was most anticipated and definitely a game with class. This game treats me like I am back at home and ready to explore a new world. There may have been glitches but not enough for me to ever consider selling my copy. Skyrim respectfully takes its place on number 2.
1. Batman Arkham City: Arkham City was the true definition of going back to the roots of Batman with the modern style of how we portray Batman. Ok I know I haven’t reviewed this but I will SOON. Very soon. This game has not only exploration but mystery and consequence that is rarely considered in a game even of this magnitude. If I know anything about story writing, it’s that a protagonist actually has to feel as though that if they fail in their mission or quest, there will be consequences.

I am so glad that you listed Batman as number one. This game was awesome. I think that it is one of my all time favorites

I have never played Terraira, nor have I heard of it. However from what you have described it sounds like it may be a good game to play.
I have mixed feelings about Assassin's Creed. Don't get me wrong it is a great game. But it is not a game that I could play for very long. May sound odd but that is how I feel about it.

Yea I can't hate on Arkham City...well I can and I will soon.
Terraria is a 2D minecraft-themed game based more off of RPG, exploration and combat than building. There are more bosses, ways of combat and much more.
Yea I feel the same but that story keeps me hooked every goddamn time.
