The 57th Parallel Analyzes: Top 5 Fav. Developers
So when I was lounging about and doing my own thing, I noticed that I never gave an analyze thread on Wednesday. Crap I should do that shouldn’t I? Well I do admit that I enjoy both series the a lot, but I feel like I am going to break format to kind of show a bit of an emphasis of what I like and don’t like in a game. Not in the way you think though because I am going to give one of my first top fives of something and this one is my favorite developers.
5. Gearbox – It took me some time to think of who to kick off with but then I remembered my copies of Borderlands and BioShock lying down near me and that’s what I thought. These were games that I enjoyed in the rights that I find hard to explain. BioShock has a story that blows me away and Borderlands has humor that I have never seen before. They start the basis of my starting top five game developers.
4. Bungie – Well long ago, when I had an Xbox 360 and a lot of time on my hands, I played Halo to the ground. A game that I thought I would never enjoy, I actually enjoyed. The odd gameplay and fun objective type games really gave me the feel of that I was back to the old days of gaming where it was hard to find something interesting. Bungie also has other lines of games that I enjoy also be it Onyx or Marathon.
3. DICE – See I don’t mind realism in games but DICE really knows how to impress me. Even with their latest installment, I was blown away by the realism but flustered by the wave of too much realism. The look of the graphics and their amazing stories with fun, new gameplay and narrative within Battlefield and Mirror’s Edge gives DICE number three in my rankings.
2. BioWare – Well I had a spare sum of money one day and I got Mass Effect. See when I tell myself, “Eventually I will find a series with a somewhat perfect story.” This game took that for me. BioWare really showed how perfect narrative and moral choices can make even the simplest thing in the world seem kind of fun. BioWare takes runner up just under my favorite.
1. Valve – I knew from the beginning that they were my favorite. I mean literally I have more Valve games than anything else. Team Fortress 2, both Portals, both Left 4 Deads, just about every Half-Life and Counter Strike: Source. I have been a life-long fan since my first game. Valve has just shown true gameplay beyond what I could think of. I mean the first co-op game that actually requires co-op, the first FPS without cut scenes and so on. Valve takes number one in my top five list of favorite game developers.

Re: The 57th Parallel Analyzes: Top 5 Fav. Developers
Valve is a awesome game developer. One of the best if not the best. I was glad to see you had listed them as number 1.
I do not have any experience with Gearbox that I can think of. I would have to look them up to find out more about them. I am not familiar with the games you have listed. I can not recall playing either one of them.
I most likely would have listed DICE as number 2. I agree that they do know how to impress. And too much realism so far has not bothered me.

I think a steam user not putting Valve at the top would be an insult and a testimony to hypocrisy.
If you have played BioShock, BioShock 2 or Borderlands then you have played a Gearbox game.
I am actually kind of disappointed with their decisions of being with EA lately because Battlefield 3, I feel, could have been SO much more but EA felt too much like they wanted money before gamers so that is what killed it for me. Their previous games are what put them on 3rd.
